LandCorp’s innovative WGV at White Gum Valley estate has received two prestigious Planning Institute of Australia awards for excellence.

LandCorp Chief Executive Frank Marra said the use of innovative planning to deliver Australia’s community of the future, with cutting edge sustainable initiatives has captured the public’s imagination.

“The two PIA awards, Best Planning Ideas – Small Project category and the highly coveted Planning Minister’s Award are clear evidence that the wider development industry are now taking notice as well,” Mr Marra said.

“At the heart of WGV are cutting-edge initiatives delivering high levels of energy and water efficiency that will save the resident around $1200 a year in bills.”

“The project is also designed to deliver a diverse range of housing styles and living options, including the Gen Y Demonstration Housing Project an innovative development showcasing flexible and sustainable dwellings for the next generation.”

Mr Marra said WGV is a key project within LandCorp’s Innovation through Demonstration program which is pushing the boundaries to seek new, smarter ways of living for Western Australians.

“These two awards clearly show that the program is starting to change people’s perceptions and set new benchmarks for the development industry.”

Mr Marra said the PIA awards also recognised the strong partnerships forged between LandCorp and the private sector, local governments and other government departments.

“I would particularly like to thank our award partners Urbis and CODA for their work in developing WGV as an award-winning residential estate, as well as the City of Fremantle,” Mr Marra said.

LandCorp and planning partner Hassell along with the City of Cockburn also received a commendation in the Best Planning Ideas – Large Project categoryfor their work on the Cockburn Coast project.

“Projects such as the Cockburn Coast WGV are vital as we look to accommodate our city’s anticipated long-term growth through urban renewal schemes and infill developments which are providing housing diversity in well-planned sustainable communities.”
