Scheme Amendment and Structure Plan

City of Albany councillors have unanimously endorsed the Middleton Beach Structure Plan and Scheme Amendment. The Middleton Beach Activity Centre plans will now be submitted to the Western Australian Planning Commission for approval.

In the meantime LandCorp will work with the City and other parts of Government including Tourism WA to seek proposals from local, national and international developers for four of the new mixed-use lots that will form the redeveloped Middleton Beach Activity Centre, including the hotel/mixed use site.

Middleton Beach is an iconic seaside location which has been a favourite destination in Albany since the 1890s.

After years of community speculation surrounding a parcel of privately owned land at Middleton Beach, which has remained vacant for years, the State Government has intervened, paving the way for private developers to create a vibrant mixed-use precinct and visitor destination with an active beachfront.

Following the State Government's purchase of the 13,171sqm site, plans are now underway to get the site ready for private development.

The site offers potential for a mix of uses including a boutique hotel, retail and commercial tenancies, as well as permanent residential accommodation.
