What sustainability means to us

Sustainability at LandCorp is about delivering innovative and sustainable development within the limits of our external environment and internal resources to meet existing needs of our State and its local communities without compromising our ability to meet the needs of future generations.

We take a long term approach to improving and maintaining the quality of life enjoyed by Western Australians. Our Policy Statement recognises the need to integrate the following four key sustainability elements in the way we undertake development.

The elements of sustainable development guide sustainability across a range of projects in the metropolitan area and throughout regional Western Australia.

Each of the interrelated four elements is considered holistically so we can offer the best possible opportunity for the development of communities where people want to live, work and play, now and into the future.

The strategies, processes and procedures that we are developing to respond to these elements of sustainable development will enable us to provide a place-based urban design response that considers environmental and climatic factors, define social, economic and cultural priorities and support excellence in the physical design and aesthetic quality that is essential for truly sustainable development.

LandCorp has been actively involved in addressing climate change through both adaptation and mitigation strategies, summarised in LandCorp's climate change statement.

Design and Sustainability Unit

Our Design and Sustainability Unit (DSU) was established to facilitate leadership and ensure design excellence and sustainability principles are embedded into our practices and processes.

This involves the development of a Sustainability Framework and the introduction and integration of a range of new tools, guides and procedures into our systems.

A number of existing procedures are also being formalised to monitor and improve design and sustainability throughout project lifecycles.

The framework aims to provide a clear and consistent approach to design and innovation and guide us, and our partners, to achieve more sustainable development.
