Originally opened in 1909 as a mixed bathing beach, South Beach was once a bustling area favoured not only by holiday makers and locals but also by fishermen and horse trainers.
In the 1900s, the beach boasted a promenade, picture theatre, roller skating rink and a hydrodome with dance floors and tearoom. The beach's opening day on March 8, 1909 attracted about 25,000 people, making South Beach by far the most popular tourist destination at that time in Western Australia. Later, industry took over the area.
We have now successfully transformed a former industrial eyesore into an national award-winning development that is rapidly becoming one of Perth's premium coastal addresses.
