Bunbury Waterfront

Bunbury Waterfront

A world-class waterfront development is planned for the City of Bunbury - Western Australia's unofficial capital of its fast-growing South West region.

The transformation of the waterfront to a sought-after coastal destination will give Bunbury an improved public waterfront area, better family beaches, retail and commercial areas, and housing in the form of townhouses and apartments.

Bunbury Waterfront has the potential to attract substantial investment for Bunbury over the next 30 years and generate significant employment during the building phase and in the longer term.

Stage 1 of the Bunbury Waterfront

Last year, in August 2011, the State Government announced approval of a $23.8million funding strategy for Stage 1 of the proposed Bunbury Waterfront development. This stage is referred to as Koombana North (Stage 1A) and Marlston North (Stage 1B).

The decision paves the way for work to progress on the project with the Government endorsing Landcorp’s new Stage 1 concept plan.

The first site to be developed under the proposal will be Koombana North.  We are working with others including the City and The Department of Planning to prepare the scheme amendment and structure plan documents necessary for the Koombana North development to proceed.  These documents are expected to be finalised and lodged with the City in the second quarter of 2012.  If endorsed by the City Council for advertising, a public comment period will be held as part of the statutory process. We will keep you informed of progress on this website.

Planning approvals are anticipated to be in place in late 2012 to enable works to commence by the end of the year.

Work will commence Monday 13 February on soil testing and geotechnical studies of the proposed Bunbury Waterfront  Koombana North development area.

The work is being conducted by LandCorp throughout February and March. The work, which is expected to be non-intrusive for business and the community, will involve drilling some holes and digging small sample areas to analyse the soil profile.

The data obtained from the site testing will enable LandCorp to prepare the appropriate management plans and preliminary building design requirements, which will be included in the Structure Plan and submitted to the City of Bunbury later this year.
