LandCorp contributes to the economic growth of Western Australia through the provision of strategically placed industrial land.
A measure of its contribution is found in an independent research report conducted by Curtin University's Institute for Research into International Competitiveness.
According to the report, industrial projects are the biggest generator of job opportunities among LandCorp's operations, with 39 per cent of the total impact on employment. LandCorp's industrial estate activities in 1999-2000 led directly and indirectly to the creation of 1,158 jobs.
LandCorp develops its industrial estates according to world's best practice and ensures an adequate supply of industrial land across the State.
Estates are designed to promote industry, while complying with strict environmental guidelines, and include buffer zones to ensure land use conflicts are avoided.
LandCorp also monitors market demands to ensure current industrial needs are being met.
We work with State Government agencies such as the Department of Industry and Resources, Department for Planning and Infrastructure and the regional development commissions to implement Government decisions to provide industrial land.
LandCorp is involved in three areas of industrial land provision:
Heavy
This is land suitable for resource-based projects such as oil and gas. Demand is anticipated by Government and LandCorp works to ensure land is 'project ready' for when an investment decision is made.
Heavy land needs extensive buffering and adjacent land uses are strictly regulated to protect the capital investments being made.
Special
This land is intended to ensure industries strategically important to the State's growth can co-locate and find advantages from sharing common infrastructure, common supplier proximity and networking.
The Australian Marine Complex at Cockburn Sound south of Perth is a good example of this kind of project.
General
Location is one of the key elements of industrial land developments. LandCorp ensures these estates are placed to meet the needs of a wide range of activities, are easy to access and developed to a high standard through landscaping and building guidelines.
They are also designed to avoid land-use conflict with surrounding residential and commercial areas.
