UDIA Award Winner 2012

Karratha’s Warambie Estate has been recognised by the Urban Development Institute of Australia as an innovative initiative to address affordable accommodation.

Designed to provide subsidised housing for up to 250 workers not employed in the resources industry, the popular project was the first of its kind in WA.

In response to the high rental rates experienced as a result of resource sector growth in Western Australia’s North West, LandCorp and the Department of Regional Development and Lands partnered with private sector group National Lifestyle Villages (NLV) to develop Warambie Estate.

The estate features 100 one, two and three bedroom architecturally designed homes with a 7-star energy efficiency rating.

Warambie Estate was designed to provide a level of quality, and a sense of family and community, that is lacking in the housing options available to many services workers in Karratha, with key features including a central park area with children’s play equipment and barbecues.
