An historic railway building located within the Claremont on the Park development, the Goods Shed is Perth's newest hub for culture and community.
Restored, revamped, and repurposed by FORM and DevelopmentWA, the building is not only a favourite place to enjoy a coffee, but hosts exhibitions, workshops, artist residencies and cultural events – delivering the goods in the shape of creative energy and buzz, year-round for the people of Claremont and surrounding community.
In October 2017, The Goods Shed was awarded the Community Investment Partnerships Award at the State Arts and Culture Partnership Honours 2017.
The Goods Shed was officially opened on 4th August 2016 and is open to the public Monday to Sunday 9am to 5pm.
History DevelopmentWA acquired the disused Goods Shed from the Public Transport Authority and initiated the restoration. The potential could be seen for it to become a significant community amenity for the early place activation for Claremont on the Park’s new residents and the wider Claremont community.
Built in 1887, the Goods Shed is a heritage listed (State Register) building which is an integral part of both the Claremont Railway Station precinct and DevelopmentWA’s Claremont on the Park project.
The building was originally used for the loading and distribution of goods from trains on the Perth to Fremantle rail line. Since being decommissioned for its original industrial purpose, the shed has been utilised for a range of functions including an artisan’s showroom, workshop and for the storage of medical supplies.
The Goods Shed is positioned at the base of the Claremont train station overhead pedestrian bridge that connects the town centre to the northern side of the railway station. It provides a critical link to the established Claremont town centre to the south of the train line.
