Eight residents of LandCorp’s Waranyjarri Estate have been recognised with Community Gratitude Awards for their contribution to improving their local community.

The awards were presented to Rachel Johnson, Astrid Gerritz, Russell Turner, Leanne Tipping, Sarah Mullineux, Erica Stanley, Vicki Noom and Sibylle Beuke during a ceremony at the annual ‘Waranyjarri Goes Troppo’ event at Tanami Park.

LandCorp regional manager Hilary Wilkins said these eight people have been instrumental in fostering a strong community spirit among residents at Waranyjarri Estate.

“On behalf of LandCorp I would like to congratulate and commend these outstanding Waranyjarri Estate residents for their efforts to provide community resources that have benefited everyone in their neighbourhood,” she said.

The achievements of the eight award recipients included establishing a playgroup to support local families, building a fruitful community garden, setting up a book sharing club, running fitness classes, organising local events and administering the Broome North community noticeboard.

“LandCorp appreciates the hard work of these volunteers for giving up their time to help build a healthy, resilient and better connected community in Broome North,” Ms Wilkins said.

Ms Wilkins said LandCorp will continue its work to grow communities in Broome North by providing affordable land and access to cleverly designed homes that are adapted to the climate and encourage sustainable living.

“LandCorp is providing new opportunities for families to enjoy Broome’s unique lifestyle and live in thriving communities where people genuinely care about each other,” she said.
