Media Contact: Felicity Carlin Felicity.Carlin@landcorp.com.au | Homebuyers will have another chance to secure residential land in Karratha when lots in the next stage of the Baynton West development go to market 9am Wednesday 21 October.
Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said that of the 117 lots currently being constructed by LandCorp, 79 will be sold to the public through an online registrations-of-interest process, with preference given to owner occupiers and local businesses looking to house employees.
The release, which comes just four months after 36 lots in the estate were brought to market, is part of a determined plan to release some 300 lots between now and early 2010.
“The State Government, through LandCorp, is working overtime to find innovative solutions to the Pilbara’s accommodation needs. Land releases at Baynton West are being fast-tracked with priority placed on providing home sites for first homebuyers, owner-occupiers, local business operators and their employees,” Mr Grylls said.
“House-and-land packages were also released for the first time in the Pilbara in May, giving homebuyers more choice with land and building options, and price certainty with housing construction.
“Our aim is to increase diversity, affordability and choice in Pilbara accommodation, and put home ownership within reach of many more purchasers.”
Mr Grylls said the Baynton West estate was part of an overall strategy for the Pilbara to create thriving and highly desirable communities where people would choose to settle permanently with their families, bring up their children and become part of the community.
The 79 home sites on offer range in size from 494sqm to 683sqm and are priced between $179,000 and $210,000.
Potential buyers can register online at www.landcorp.com.au/bayntonwest from 9am Wednesday, 21 October 2009.
The on-line approach is based on a popular and successful sales method used by major land developers across Australia, and is on a ‘first-in, first-served’ basis. This will help ensure prospective purchasers secure a place in the sales queue.
“Baynton West is becoming one of Karratha’s most vibrant communities supporting more than 1,000 new homes, parks, playgrounds and planned recreational facilities, a school and a new $5.7 million community centre towards which LandCorp is contributing $3.5 million” Mr Grylls said.
“Demand for housing in the region remains high, with LandCorp recently asking for expressions of interest for the development of a 4ha Baynton West site with the potential for a developer to build around 240 homes. Planning is also underway on a possible future extension of LandCorp’s Nickol West estate.”
LandCorp’s standard 30-month construction timeframe will apply to all lots and design guidelines will ensure climate-responsive housing and a high-quality residential estate.
Since 2006, LandCorp has delivered more than 800 lots in Karratha.
Elsewhere in the Pilbara, LandCorp is planning developments in Newman, Onslow, and a major redevelopment in South Hedland funded by Royalties for Regions. In addition LandCorp delivers industrial, commercial and town centre revitalisation projects throughout the Pilbara and contributes to community infrastructure. |
