regional development assistance PROGRAM

2012 Applications Now Open.  Click here for more information and to download an application form

The availability of land is a significant factor in stimulating the social and economic growth of regional Western Australia. However the often prohibitive cost of development means many projects would be unviable, limiting interest from private developers and investors.

To support the revitalisation and growth of regional towns, the State Government provides LandCorp with funding which allows LandCorp to assist in developing local communities.

Under the Regional Development Assistance Program (RDAP), local governments can identify potential land development projects and apply to LandCorp for assistance to progress development.

To help LandCorp assess applications in a timely way, local governments are encouraged to provide as much information as possible in their RDAP submission. Preparing submissions could involve:

  • Liaising with the Department of Regional Development and Lands to identify available crown land
  • Checking that the necessary service infrastructure is available (eg water, power, sewerage)
  • Ensuring zoning of the land is appropriate (or has a resolution from council to initiate a rezoning)
  • Outlining what has already been done to make the identified land development-ready
  • Ensuring the application form is complete

Local government is also encouraged to explore other avenues for development, such as the potential for private sector partnerships, external grant funding, applicant-provided funding or “in-kind” contributions.
